Based on parent feedback and in effort to reduce waste, we will no longer be providing t-shirts as part of camp registration. Is your child an animal lover? Our 'Little Animal Enthusiast' camp is the perfect way for your camper to learn more about some of their favourite animals in a fun, hands-on environment! Campers will discover lots of interesting facts about a variety of different animals such as their life cycle, habitat, what they eat, and how they adapt to their environments. All learning will be done through interactive and hands-on learning activities such as art projects, drama activities, outdoor learning, and even baking! We will explore a different animal each day including chameleons, owls, dolphins, horses, and sharks. Registration for this camp does NOT include a t-shirt. JUNIOR JEDI TRAINING

Little younglings, join us for a week of adventures into a faraway galaxy where you will learn what it takes to truly become a Jedi Knight. You and your fellow younglings will work together to complete challenges that will help you master the skills needed to obtain your Jedi Knighthood. Come explore the galaxy with us as we build our own spaceships, make our own light sabers, and make masks of some of the characters. Younglings will learn teamwork as they work through daily tasks. Before you become a Jedi, you will need to prove if the force is with you by completing daily activities. After a week of Jedi training, you will engage in a safe and fun light saber dueling contest where it will be determined if the force IS with you! DISCOVER PLANET EARTH

Discover the incredible way our world works as an alien guest scientist from Planet X. On a one-week journey to Earth, campers will discover the amazing features through exciting hands-on experiments. Campers will build mini-volcanoes that erupt, grow crystals, and see how icicles are made. Create a lava lamp and watch the battle between oil and water, and make “oobleck” – a cool substance that has both solid and liquid properties! Campers will participate in Alien Olympics and “earth walks” to collect data about our fascinating planet. To round off their alien journey, they will collect stamps in their Alien Passports. Unleash your imagination and come travel to a magical world of myth and wonder! Campers will explore fantastical stories and legends of dragons, unicorns, wizards, mermaids, and other mythical creatures. In addition to story and character exploration (including making up our own tales), we will play magical games and make unicorn horns, paper plane dragons, magic potions, and other artworks inspired by our favorite mystical creatures. JUNIOR ART CAMP

Move over, Van Gogh! Campers will learn to express themselves and be prouder of their artistic achievements than ever before. They will learn the tricks and techniques of painting and drawing, and be skilled beyond their years. Campers will paint on canvas with professional paints, learning the techniques of accomplished artists worldwide. They will learn drawing secrets and skills enabling them to develop a lifetime interest and love of drawing. Each camper will be taught as an individual, and encouraged to develop a personal style. AROUND THE WORLD IN 5 DAYS

Get your passport ready! Join us as we explore the globe, learning about different cultures and what it’s like to live and play in distant lands. We will visit China, Japan, Mexico, Australia, and North America (North West Coast Native groups). This journey will incorporate geography, language, cultural activities, games, and diversity with active, fun arts and crafts and academic tasks. Try sand painting, breaking a piñata, Chinese calligraphy, making a didgeridoo, and more fun activities from around the world as we celebrate the nations and what makes each place around the world unique. Campers will develop a positive attitude towards the game of basketball while learning to play and understand every position on the court. UNDERWATER ADVENTURE

What’s the largest salt water mammal? Does Ogopogo really exist? How deep is the deepest part of the ocean? Join us for a week of underwater adventure, and dazzle your family with new facts when you go to the beach this summer! We’ll turn our classroom into an underwater world, creating fresh and salt water-themed art work, and create a larger-than-life 3D aquatic species. Campers will become junior marine biologists and study oceans, lakes, rivers, and the creatures that live within them. Discover what causes an oil spill and how it hurts seagulls, seals, and other cute water animals. On the last day, campers will create and share their own new animal that could live in one of the underwater environments we’ve studied! Registration for this camp does NOT include a t-shirt. In this exciting and fun-filled week, we will explore acting through a variety of creative activities, including improvisation, action-packed theatre sports games, and on-your-feet physical activities. Campers will have the opportunity to use their imagination, creativity, and performance expression throughout the week. We will explore voice and movement as well as work together on a final play which will be presented on the last day of camp. Campers gain self-confidence through focused drama and team building activities. This camp is perfect for actors of all skill levels – even first-timers. MINI CHEFS IN TRAINING

In this camp, we will put our basic cooking skills to work to make all kinds of yummy, kid-friendly food. We will combine food preparation with lots of activities to help learn about food, nutrition, and safety in the kitchen. Campers will make chef’s hats, decorate aprons, learn how to set a table, and play games to identify healthy food vs. non-healthy food. Each day, they will make a recipe that does not require a full-size oven – anything from a lunch-time sandwich, to snack-time treat. All food items used are peanut and nut free. We are unable to accommodate other allergy or dietary needs. NOTE: Although we will be making some food, campers are still required to bring a proper lunch and snacks. MAD SCIENCE

Get ready to become a mad scientist! Does your child like to conduct their own experiments? In this camp, campers will get to experience exhilarating scientific discoveries through hands-on activities. We will find out how molecules move, learn the properties of matter, and observe how strange substances behave. Campers will create colour-changing milk, make their own tornadoes, find out what ‘magic sand’ is, and much more. Campers will get to design and build rockets and boats, and compete in the ‘Southridge Egg Drop Challenge’! BE A BUILDER

Have you ever wondered how Science World was built? Over the course of the week, campers will build their very own towns, using mapping skills with the cardinal directions: north, east, south, and west. Campers will put on their civil engineer hats and design roads, parks, buildings, bridges, houses, landscapes, and more. Using a project board, they will use flat and 3-D shapes to design, colour, cut, and build original 3-D buildings with a variety of materials and shapes at their disposal. Imagination and creativity are the main tools to build your very own 3-D town. Registration for this camp does NOT include a t-shirt. MINECRAFT ADVENTURE

Come and be an adventurer with us as we bring the virtual world of Minecraft to life! We will explore the video game, get tips and tricks, as well as learn about cooperation, online etiquette, and digital responsibility. Together, we will embark on virtual building and team treasure hunting challenges, and recreate the Minecraft world through creative and physical activities. We will “Minecraft Ourselves,” make Minecraft avatar helmets, build with Minecraft Papercraft, and more! Adventurers will also engage in physical activity by playing Minecraft themed sports and games. NOTE: Campers will be responsible for bringing a device with a version of Minecraft on it each day (preferably the Pocket Edition, available on iOS, Android and Windows devices). WONDER-FABULOUS WRITERS' CAMP

This week will change your life! Learn how to use your everyday life experiences to create amazing stories: tell tall-tales, become an epic hero, go on fantastic journeys, and face massive challenges. Campers will write journals, stories, and poetry that are full of suspense, humour, mystery, surprise, and triumph over evil. A large portion of the camp is active, as we will play games and go on observation walks. Campers will discover fresh sources of inspiration from their own lives and learn how to create mood, develop characters, and make their writing come to life! This camp is suitable for all levels of writers. Campers will conclude their week with a portfolio of completed stories, as well as having lots of ideas for future stories that they can continue working on. young scientists

Campers will put on their scientist hats for a week of experiments, dissections, investigations, and competitions as we learn about physics, chemistry, and biology in a fun setting. This camp incorporates science magic, microscopes, demonstrations, and observations as campers discover why things work the way they do and what makes science so interesting. Each day, we will focus on a different science and at the end of the week, we will get out our trusty microscopes to discover the many micro-organisms we can find in pond water. On Thursday, we will head off to the UBC Botanical Garden to experience first-hand their food and medicinal gardens as well as their tree top canopy. OUTDOOR PHYSICAL FUN

Join us for a week of outdoor physical fun exploring nature’s peaks, valleys, and waterways! Campers will get to connect with nature while improving their physical fitness through hiking, trail walking, and swimming. Destinations include various hikes and lakes around the Lower Mainland, such as: Teapot Hill and Cultus Lake. NOTE: Some of the physical activities are considered intermediate level – campers should have a good base level of fitness in order to participate in this camp. HANDS-ON ROBOTICS: MINDSTORMS EV3

Ages 10 - 13 (as of 12/31/19)

In the Hands-on Robotics camp, campers will build their own robot by exploring the principles of mechanics involving motors, wheels, and axles using Lego’s cutting edge Mindstorms EV3 technology. The EV3 system allows for more motors, more sensors, and the ability to control robots from iOS and Android devices for seemingly endless possibilities. We will become familiar with input devices (such as: touch, light, rotation, gyroscopes, and ultrasonic sensors) along with output devices (such as: motors, sound, and lights.) Campers will be engaged in problem solving tasks by designing and creating their own robots to complete daily challenges, both individually and as part of a group. This camp includes use of a Southridge Lego Mindstorms EV3 kit. Registration for this camp does NOT include a t-shirt. BASKETBALL, GAMES AND LEADERSHIP

The goal of this camp is to have fun learning the fundamentals of basketball. Campers will be challenged and pushed to achieve their best as players and athletes. We will work on individual player skills, team strategies, and mental aspects of the exciting sport of basketball. Campers can expect skill competitions, 1 on 1, 3 on 3, and 5 on 5. Throughout the camp, we will take breaks to play other sports such as soccer, touch rugby, floor hockey, and dodgeball. Campers will also work on their leadership skills with their peers and younger campers by leading various games and Sports Day activities. Registration for this camp does NOT include a t-shirt.
