Last Friday night, the U13 CAIS boys competed in our first annual Grade 7 Storm Invitational basketball tournament. The tournament, which proved to be an excellent display of skill and competition, hosted teams from across the lower mainland. For the U13 CAIS boys, the tournament kicked off with a game against St. Catherine's School from South Langley.
From the beginning, the St. Catherine's Sun's were a competitive team and brought an early rush that required the boys to get to work right away. After weathering the initial rush, the boys regained the lead and never looked back. The team executed great play on both ends of the court, cruising to a 20 point victory.
Following the win over St. Catherine's, the boys found themselves in a tournament semi-final against a very strong team from C&G Howe Middle School in Abbotsford. After a competitive first half, the team struggled to defend against a highly effective C&G Howe offense. By the 4th quarter, the game had gotten away from the boys ending in a tough loss. This was a good opportunity for the team to endure some adversity before competing in the bronze medal game against visiting Star of the Sea School from South Surrey.
Heading into the bronze medal game, the team was confident and ready to compete after a tough loss in the semis. The team brought a refreshed energy to the game that carried them through in what proved to be a very close contest. Tied 29-29 at half, the boys created turnovers on defense and capitalized on scoring opportunities on offense. By the final whistle, Southridge took home the bronze with a 4 point victory.
Congratulations to the boys for an awesome tournament! Thanks to all of the parents and families who supported the team throughout the evening!
