On Friday, February 22, the Southridge U13 CAIS Boys Basketball team wrapped up their season with a great silver medal at the ISEA Championships hosted by St. George’s. In a wild tournament that included a 30-29 last second win over Collingwood School in the ISEA Semi-Final, the Storm walked away proud of their accomplishments.
Overall, it was a great season for the boys. Starting off back in November, the team gathered to make their own mark in the history of U13 CAIS Boys basketball here at Southridge. Early in the season, we played host for the Storm Invitational Basketball Tournament, which was a great early season test for the team coming in 4th. Some successful league games followed as the team headed into the winter break. Many of the boys were able to come in to practice over the winter break, showing their commitment to developing themselves as players.
After the break, the month of January included a tournament in Chilliwack and a trip to Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School in Okotoks, Alberta. The CAIS Tournament was a great experience for the boys both on and off the court, and they represented the school well! A 9th out of 18th finish was a respectable end to a highly competitive tournament which was seen in our 4 point loss to the eventual bronze medal winning team from Upper Canada College (Toronto, ON). Eight games in three days was an exhausting but exciting trip for the team!
At its end, the team wrapped up the season at the ISEA Championships, taking home the silver in a finals loss to the host, St. George’s. The team should be proud of their accomplishments, but more importantly proud of the growth they displayed throughout the year. Our focus as a team was to emphasize the process in all that we did, and understand how each step fits into the larger picture of their development as students and players. The boys made some strides in the right direction and are excited for the next phase of Southridge basketball to come.
Congratulations on a great season!
