On March 12 the Senior Concert Band headed to the Chilliwack Lion’s Club concert band festival to perform the challenging Second Suite in F by Gustav Holst. They worked all year to prepare the four movements of this work, which contains very difficult ensemble passages as well as many prominent solo parts.

As we walked on stage, we were both excited and intimidated to learn that our adjudicators would be Dr. Scott MacLennan from Kwantlen University, and Dr. Gerald King, longtime director of bands and the wind conducting program at the University of Victoria as well as Jedi Master of the wind ensemble world.

The band performed amazingly well, and several soloists shone on their instruments. Senior music steward Nicole Elliott did a particularly amazing job of performing the extended Euphonium solos in the first and fourth movements.

After an amazing clinic with the adjudicators, where the students demonstrated outstanding focus, the group was awarded Gold for their performance. Congratulations to the senior band for all of their hard work, we are all so proud of them!
