Senior Girls Soccer Win Second in “A” Provincial Championships

This past weekend the Senior Girls Soccer Team travelled to Nakusp to compete in the “A” Provincial Championships. Our pool play results were: in the first game we beat hosts Nakusp 6-0, then we beat Lakes District 5-0, and we finished pool play by beating Similkameen 5-0. This earned us a berth into the semi-finals against Glenlyon Norfolk (GNS) who won the title last year.

The girls played a very strong game and ended up winning the game 2-0. On Saturday, we took on Immaculata in the provincial final. For our six graduating seniors, this could equal redemption as we lost to Immaculata in the finals for their Grade 8 and 9 years. At the end of regulation time it was tied 1-1 which meant two 7.5 minute halves of extra time and then onto shoot outs (if necessary).

During extra time, Kate Wells made an incredible save on a breakaway, but unfortunately with three minutes left, Immaculata scored. Lauren Toy was our team MVP as she had an outstanding tournament and the only goals scored on Kate Wells was the two in the final.

The girls were heartbroken but they should hold their heads high as we have had a great season and the resumè the seniors are graduating with is quite impressive: three provincial silver medals, two Fraser Valley silver medals, one Fraser Valley gold medal and banner, and one ISA gold medal. Congratulations ladies and congratulations to our graduating seniors (Kate Wells, Mia Cender, Sabrina Redies, Riley Chang, and Morgan Muncey-Buckley).
